1 officer killed, 4 wounded in standoff with gunman in west Texas


LEVELLAND, Texas — One officer was killed and 4 others have been wounded Thursday after a police standoff in a Texas city erupted in gunfire.

The incident concerned a person barricaded in a home shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday on a residential road in Levelland, about 30 miles west of Lubbock. The wounded officers have been taken to a Lubbock hospital and one officer went to a Levelland hospital, which positioned itself on lockdown.

One of many officers taken to the hospital, Sgt. Josh Bartlett, chief of the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Workplace tactical unit, died on the Lubbock hospital, in response to a press release from the Justices of the Peace and Constables Affiliation of Texas.
