Deranged man in Harlem stabbed straphanger who refused to argue with him: cops

Transit detectives in Harlem are looking for the deranged man who stabbed a straphanger early on Friday morning.

Police released an image of the suspect behind the attack that occurred at 4:24 a.m. on Oct. 28 at the 125th Street-St. Nicholas Avenue station on the A line.

According to law enforcement sources, the perpetrator approached the 54-year-old man as he walked on the platform on the Brooklyn-bound side, and attempted to engage him in a verbal dispute. 

The victim, however, ignored the suspect and continued walking. Police said the assailant then followed the victim, pulled out a knife and stabbed the straphanger in the upper back.

Following the knifing, cops said, the suspect fled out of the station to the street above.

The incident was reported to the 26th Precinct and NYPD Transit District 3. EMS rushed the victim to Mount Sinai-Morningside Hospital, where he received multiple stitches to close the back wound; he’s listed in stable condition.

Police described the suspect as a man with a dark complexion believed to be between 28 and 35 years of age, standing about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a thin build. 

He’s shown in the security camera image wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a black jacket and black pants.
