A man was taken into custody for allegedly killing a California woman in a hit-and-run in the Upper West Side.
26-year-old Brian Boyd, of Amsterdam Avenue, was arrested in connection to the death of 65-year-old Lisa Banes, of Los Angeles.
Police say that at 6:33 p.m. on June 4, officers responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian struck at the intersection of West 64th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers found Banes lying on the roadway with severe head trauma.
EMS rushed Banes to Mount Sinai Saint Luke’s Hospital, where she ultimately died of her injuries on June 14.
An investigation found that while Banes was trying to cross Amsterdam Avenue, from west to east inside the north crosswalk at West 64 Street with the signal in her favor, Boyd allegedly passed through a red light on his scooter and hit Banes, knocking her into the roadway. Boyd then allegedly continued to head northbound on Amsterdam Avenue.
Following an ongoing investigation, Boyd was taken into custody on Aug. 5 and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death and Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian.
Ex-Brit turned Manhattan resident since 2008.
