A scooter rider from the Bronx died on Monday evening when his ride collided with a truck at an Upper East Side intersection, police reported.
Salvador Navarette-Flores, 31, of Wythe Place was killed in the crash that occurred at about 5:10 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the corner of 1st Avenue and East 76th Street.
According to law enforcement sources, Navarette-Flores was operating a Jiajue scooter heading northbound on 1st Avenue when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle. The moped then veered to the left and collided with a parked 2019 Freightliner box truck, parked along the western side of the street.
Officers from the 19th Precinct responded to a 911 call about the crash. EMS rushed Navarette-Flores to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
According to Danny Harris, executive director of Transportation Alternatives, the moped operator was a member of Los Deliveristas Unidos, an organization representing food delivery workers from across the city. Navarette-Flores apparently struck the truck, which had been parked illegally in a bike lane.

The case has been presented to the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad for further examination, police said.
