Two men shot dead in Garment District near recording studio

Detectives are searching for three suspects who shot two men to death in the Garment District early on Thursday morning.

Police said the shooting happened at about 12:12 a.m. on May 5 inside the three-story building at 350 West 37th St., off 9th Avenue.

According to published reports, it’s believed the gunfire erupted during a recording session within the building, where a partially-converted studio is located. The motive for the shooting remains unknown at this time, law enforcement sources said.

Officers from the Midtown South Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about the incident, found an unidentified, unconscious man in front of the building, with a gunshot wound to his torso.

Upon further investigation, cops located 34-year-old Kamir King, of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard in Harlem, on the third floor; he had been shot in the head.

EMS rushed both male victims to Bellevue Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

During the investigation, officers recovered a firearm outside the apartment building, which had been lying next to the first victim.

During a morning press conference on May 5 at the 13th Precinct, Inspector Robert O’Hare, Chief Salvatore Comodo and Deputy Inspector Aaron Klein revealed that police are making an extensive canvass of video surveillance footage.

Chief Comodo also said that the department is also exploring the possibility of this case being connected to a eerily similar shooting that occurred nearly one year prior a few blocks away on May 7, 2021.

So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, authorities said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police said they are looking for three to four suspects identified only as Black men, who were seen fleeing the location in an unknown direction after the shooting. Police officials are asking the public for further assistance regarding the perps’ description and location.

Anyone with information regarding the double homicide can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA). You can also submit tips online at, or on Twitter @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
